Hello there!
The Prairie State Longhorn Association was started in 2001 by a group of dedicated breeders looking to showcase their animals to the State of Illinois and surrounding states. Since then shows, farm tours and meetings have taken place to strengthen the bond among breeders in Illinois proving to the rest of the Longhorn community that there are great Texas Longhorn cattle to be found in our state.
In 2017, the association was brought back to life with many newer members. Field Days have been implemented at the meetings as a way to increase breeder knowledge about their cattle. Topics so far have been about Mineral Supplementation, Pasture Rotation and Herd Health. These Field Days will strengthen our members so that when questioned about our cattle by other cattle breeders we will be looked at not just as hobby cattle farmers but serious breeders that have something to offer to the cattle industry.
We look forward to continuing member recruitment and education so that our members will have a stronger market for our cattle!
